Baton Rouge LA (PRWEB) February 07, 2012
Baton Rouge attorney, Joseph K. Scott, III, has been named to the 2012 Louisiana Super Lawyer “Rising Star” List in the area of Municipal Law. Mr. Scott has been recognized as one of the top up and coming attorneys in the state for his work as an Assistant Parish Attorney for the consolidated City-Parish Government of East Baton Rouge.
The “Rising Star” list was launched in 1998 by Super Lawyers to recognize these young attorneys who are making their mark in their specific legal area. Mr. Scott, 44, has been practicing law for nine years.
“It’s really flattering to be named as a “Rising Star” because it’s a peer nomination, so the nomination comes from my fellow attorneys. I understand that the research process confirms the nominees, and less than 3% of the attorneys in the state are “Rising Stars” in any year, so it’s a great affirmation of my work and reputation,” said Mr. Scott.
This year over 4,500 Louisiana peer nominations were submitted, with lawyers being evaluated on the basis of 12 indicators that peers have personally observed in action; whether as co-counsel or opposing counsel or through firsthand courtroom observations. The highest scoring individuals are then vetted through a research process which includes checking that the attorney license is in good standing, and a disciplinary check.
The list of attorneys selected appeared in the January 2012 issue of Louisiana Super Lawyers published by the legal division of Thompson Reuters, Egan, MN. It is also published as a special insert in city magazines such as “New Orleans Magazine.”
Mr. Scott also maintains a private practice which focuses on criminal defense (federal and state), family law and juvenile law. Mr. Scott has been protecting the rights of individuals and families with the same skill and expertise that led him to being named a “rising star” in Louisiana Super Lawyer magazine.
“To date my legal career has included my role as Assistant Parish Attorney, as an associate in a family law firm, an ongoing private practice as a criminal defense and family law attorney, as a panel attorney for the Federal Public Defender’s office and as law clerk to a juvenile court judge. I like to think that my legal career combined with my years of experience working as a non-lawyer in private industry and governmental positions gives me a different insight on legal problems, ” explained Mr. Scott.
Mr. Scott has maintained his private practice since 2004 and has represented several hundred clients. He is a 2002 graduate of LSU Law School in Baton Rouge, LA and was a member of Law Review. Mr. Scott has written many articles on criminal law for the Louisiana Bar Association magazine and is a speaker on juvenile law and family law issues. Mr. Scott is married with two teenage children. He has lived and worked in the Baton Rouge area for the past 18 years.
